About Us

Mission Statement

Goen Senior Center aims to build a supportive community for Japanese seniors living in America. We focus on fostering connections through Japanese language communication and creating meaningful relationships through heartfelt interactions.

💡 Our Vision As we enter an era with an increasing senior population, we recognize the challenges that come with aging, such as social isolation and the loss of meaningful connections. Among these challenges, language barriers can make life even more difficult, especially for seniors who are not fluent in English.

At the heart of our organization is the value of “Go-en” – meaningful connections. We create welcoming spaces where Japanese seniors can freely communicate in their native language, fostering an atmosphere where participants and volunteers, including Japanese exchange students, come together to share values and build lasting relationships. Through these interactions, we aim to build a warm, intergenerational community that transcends age and cultural differences.

Additionally, we actively encourage exchanges with younger generations, such as children learning Japanese. By connecting seniors with these young learners, we help preserve and pass down the rich traditions and culture of Japan. Through these activities, we strive to create a future where seniors and younger generations can learn from one another, grow together, and share joy.
